The Lion King was, in many ways, a fulfilled goal and a dream come true for me. I left university and found a job to pay the bills so I could work nights on my portfolio and learn a completely new craft. Later, when I moved abroad after winning a part-time course in a competition at Escape Studios, I was fully focused on getting hired by one of the major VFX studios in London. After several more years of overnight hauls, it finally happened, and I was taken on board by Head of Department Marco Genovesi at MPC.

Looking back years later, it might seem funny that I sacrificed so much, but there was nothing behind it except pure love for the film and the craft. It was only later, throughout the production, that I realized certain misconceptions I hadn’t been aware of—or had simply been blind to—and decided to move on to smaller productions after finishing the film.

What made this whole experience truly unbeatable, though, was watching the final movie with the whole team in the cinema at Leicester Square, and later in a full IMAX theatre.
