Searching for the Shader

From the very beginning, I’ve been in love with classic painted animated movies and illustration. At some point, I began chasing that same visual style in my 3D work.
This goal runs through many of the pieces in this portfolio, but these were among the first truly presentable ones—where I seriously started experimenting with different techniques and workflows. It began with vertex painting using the dot product in Houdini, moved through shading experiments in Unity and Unreal Engine, and eventually led me to Blender, which finally offered everything I was looking for—especially its NPR (non-photorealistic rendering) system in Eevee, which I still use today.
Developing this kind of shader is an ongoing process. From time to time, I rebuild it to suit a new style or to focus on specific details I’m currently drawn to. Other times, I find myself naturally returning to the simple aesthetic I first fell in love with.
